We moved into our new house in late September. It felt enormous compared to the studio where Holly, Remi, and I spent most of the pandemic.

That didn’t last long though. Not long after moving in we decided to foster a couple of puppies. Two mutts from the same litter—a brindle boy, Munchie and a black and brown girl, Mangia.

The puppies were small when we got them—about 3 pounds. They were constantly hungry, but not great at finding food.

We had to slow down their eating. For one of their first meals Holly fed the puppies so much they couldn’t sit down. There bellies were too full. Every time they tried to sit, they would roll to their back or side.

We referred to them as the “bug puppies” because their short legs and round bellies gave them a bug-like appearance.

Munchie and Mangia grew quickly. In the few weeks we had them they grew from 3 to fifteen pounds.

They were a lot of work, but also a ton of fun.

They both had very different personalities. Mangia was not afraid of anything, while Munchie tended to be more cautious.

They did similar things though. They both loved crawling around in the grass on their bellies.

After about 3 weeks Mangia was adopted and we said goodbye.

We were unsure how Munchie would do without her. They had never been separated and spent every single moment of their lives together.

Fortunately, he seemed to do OK and now that he was getting bigger he could start to play a bit more with Remi.

Munchie really was a great little puppy. He was sensitive and curious and wanted to do everything Remi did.

One of my favorite memories was when we took out a bunch of packing paper and put it on the floor for the dogs. Munchie didn’t know what to make of it. However, when Remi started tearing it up Munchie started going nuts—like that was the best thing ever.

A week or so later Munchie also got adopted. We feel like it was a good home. But it was sad to see them go.
